Hello! My name is Alexis Urias and I am beyond excited to serve as the President of the Latino Business Student Association (LBSA) at UC Irvine for the 2016-2017 academic year. LBSA was the very first organization I joined at UC Irvine and it has helped me grow professionally and personally. By actively participating in all of the events that LBSA hosted my first year, I got to meet many people from UCI and was able to form lifelong friendships. Coming from a close-knit Mexican family, LBSA quickly became my familia away from home by welcoming me with open arms and by encouraging me to always push myself to do better. My LBSA familia has always been there for me during the good times and the bad times and has taught me valuable lessons that I will be able use in my personal and professional life and I am extremely grateful for that.
A little about me, I am a third year Film and Media Studies and Sociology double major. This goes to show that you do not have to be a business major to be a part of LBSA (nor do you have to be Latin@)! I am from San Diego, California and the youngest of four. Some of my hobbies include going out to eat, hanging out with friends, hiking, going on adventures and taking cool pictures for Instagram, and I just recently got myself into running half-marathons. Some of my personal goals for the future are to study abroad in Brazil for a semester during my fourth year, move to Miami, and work for Univision as a news reporter or a broadcast journalist. I also enjoy giving back to the community and helping others in any way possible. I am really looking forward to working with our Executive Board and bringing new ideas to LBSA that can benefit all of its members. I am also looking forward to expanding the LBSA familia at UCI and welcoming everyone the same way I was welcomed when I stepped foot on UCI’s campus.
